Magnolia stellata (Sieb. & Zucc.) Maxim.
 
Star Magnolia

Flowers: White, fragrant, February to March, usually flowers slightly before M. x soulangiana. Weather dependent.

Foliage: Medium green, finer texture than other magnolias. Yellow to brown fall color.

Fruit: Reddish knobby fruit, splits to reveal orange seeds.

Trunk, Branching, Twigs: Smooth, silvery gray bark.

 

Location: On the west side of Mullins Library, across the sidewalk from the building, near the Union addition construction.
