GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Sharply pyramidal when young, becoming oblong, rectangular with age. Slow to
medium growth rate, medium texture
ADAPTABILITY:
Adaptable to soil, will grow in swamps and well-drained sites. Needs acidic
soils
FUNCTIONS:
Shade tree, naturalizing.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Difficult to transplant, move as a small tree. Slow to recover after transplanting.
Chlorosis on high pH soil.
Provenance is important when selecting for landscape use.
