Q and A

Q. I spent the weekend re-reading Descarte to try and understand what he is saying and after listening to you talk about him in class today I am still lost. Is there any outside place I can seek help on trying to understand what Descarte is saying?

A. Yes, of course. I'd go to Early Modern Texts, which gives a paraphrase of the Mediations which may be easier to read.
And of course there are a lot of articles (and web pages, presumably) on Descartes' Meditations. I haven't read the whole thing, but I'd look at the article on Descartes in the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy

Q. Is our test still on March 23?
A. Yes; at present.

Q. Where is the study guide for the second exam? I couln't get the link to open...
A. Oops. It should work now. here.

Q. I know this is a little too late, but I really feel that having the examination the monday immediately after the spring break gave insufficient time to prepare for this test. Because the questions were only posted a few days before spring break began, there was very little time to prepare for the test prior to spring break, not to mention how little information from studying would have been retained after a week. I was personally, as I'm sure were many of the students in our class, very busy over spring break. I don't think it is fair to expect that we should be able to thoroughly cover the large amount of material that is necessary for success on these examinations in the time given excluding the week of spring break. I respect that the exam date has been posted since early this semester, and I am usually not one to complain or argue, but I would really like to do well in your class and I am afraid that this timing will hinder my ability to do so. I will prepare for this exam as well as I am able, but I just wanted to share with you my disgruntledment.
A. Thanks for sharing "disgruntledment." As you say, it's probably too late to do anything about. It would be unfair to the students who cut short their "breaking" to study to postpone the exam suddenly.
