Arkansas/Tennesee short course
New in 2009. This is an intensive 3-day introductory level turfgrass management short course. It is designed specifically to benefit turfgrass managers in lawn, grounds, or athletic field care that have not had a formal turf management course. The course emphasizes sound, research-based fundamentals of the why behind the how turf is cared for in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Topics are taught class room style and cover the fundamentals of: turf identification, selection, establishment, fertilization, mowing, irrigation, aeration, de-thatching, pest management and others. The course is a cooperative effort among the turf science faculty at the University of Arkansas and the University of Tennesee. Pesticide recertification training will be available at this course. Speakers from both the University of Tennessee and the University of Arkansas will cover a wide range of turfgrass management topics over the 3 days of sessions. All are encouraged to attend, regardless of the industry sector in which they work (golf courses, sports turf, lawn care, etc.) or years of turfgrass experience. This short course could be a perfect opportunity for certain turfgrass managers to provide crew members with basic turfgrass management education or simply sharpen their own skills. Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. Attendees who pre-register will also be guaranteed a set of references materials.
This program (see attached file) has been approved for 2.1 GCSAA education points, 2.1 STMA CSFM CEUs, and 10 pesticide recertification credits in Tennessee categories C3, C10, and C12. Additionally, the program has been awarded recertification credits in Mississippi categories 3 and 10. Arkansas State Plant Board recertification credits will also be available to those in attendance.
