In 1995, according to state
employment statistics, 24 percent of the state's jobs were generated
by the agricultural, food and life sciences. About one-fourth
of the total employee income in Arkansas - more than $8 billion
in wages and salaries - is associated with agricultural production
and processing. Also, life sciences programs in the state employ
personnel working in areas pertaining to human growth and development,
personal behavior, housing and environment, interior design,
food and nutrition, apparel and textiles, the hospitality sector
and resource management.
