Introduction

Electrochemical immunoassays involve attachment of antibody-antigen system directly onto the electrode, or involve a preconcentration step of the detectable product before electrochemical analysis.

We have recently described the construction and characterization of a microcavity electrochemical device that is capable of self-contained electrochemistry and would have several advantages for small volume electrochemical immunoassays.

This approach provides simplicity for electrochemical analysis and the configuration is readily adaptable for a variety of applications. Research investigation for application of these microcavity electrochemical devices to immunoassays and multiple small-volume analysis will be carried out.

Research Objective

Our long range objective is to develop arrays of electrochemical devices for multi-component and multiple small volume analysis with integrated microelectro-mechanical structures (MEMS) and instrumentation.
