Topic: SLAVERY IN ARKANSAS

Grade Level: First Grade

Time: One day Ark. History

Arkansas History Frameworks: 3.1.1

Objectives: The students will be able to get a slight indication of what slavery was like

Set: We will talk about slavery and some of what it was like

Resources: Negro Slavery in Arkansas, Orville W. Taylor

Key Terms: Slavery, master, slave

Activities: It will take about an hour to do the activity. Divide students in pairs and then have them take turns being a slave to each other.

Closure: After the activity is over, have the students discuss their feelings on slavery and what it might have been like to be a slave.

Assessment: The class discussion will serve as a part of the assessment. Have the students write a journal entry on what they think slavery would have been like.
