Objective: Students will locate and label the principal rivers of Arkansas
on a state map
Set: Students will discuss various Rivers, or activities/sports they have
done on a river. They will then begin discussing the various rivers
throughout Arkansas
Materials: Large Map of Arkansas with Rivers labeled.
Individual maps of Arkansas (one per student)

These rivers all empty into the Mississippi River
The importance of the Rivers for transportation of goods throughout
Arkansas
Activities: Teacher will present the lesson with a visual of a map of the
Rivers of Arkansas.
Students will be given a map of Arkansas with the Rivers drawn in.
Students will label the Rivers throughout Arkansas and create a key that
correspond with the labeling of their map
Closure: Student will write a creative story using a writing prompt; " My
favorite water sport on The_______________ River…"
Assessment: Teacher will check maps for accuracy and proper
labeling
