FACILITIES
At a ground
breaking ceremony on October 31, 1997, a dream began to
materialize as the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena
construction began. Said to be one of the finest in the
country, the arena project was completed and dedicated
one Saturday afternoon in April of 1999. In the summer
of that same year, construction began on the Dorothy E.
King Equine Pavilion, adjoining the Pauline Whitaker
Animal Science Arena. These two facilities have created
a statewide focal point for activities involving horses,
cattle and other livestock.

The Pauline Whitaker
Animal Science Arena
The Department of Animal Science, as well as the Equine
Program and the University in general, benefit
tremendously from the multipurpose facilities for
teaching, seminars, field days, alumni events, animal
shows, and state and national livestock events. The
facilities also support a powerful educational program
which has benefited numerous students seeking various
degrees, from Animal Science, Veterinary and Pre-Med
Candidates, and so much more. The D. E. King Equine
Program has flourished and prospered, all under the
capable and loving direction of Dr. Nancy Jack, and the
support of a generous community.

D.E. King Pavilion
The program operates almost entirely out of the D. E.
King Equine Pavilion, our "barn." The barn consists of
12 box stalls, feed room, tack room, office, lighted
outdoor equine arena, lab, breeding dummy, stocks, and
wash/grooming area. A partition between two stalls is
taken out during the foaling season, turning two 12' x
12' stalls into our 24' x 12' "birthing suite," complete
with video camera for monitoring foaling mares.

Many classes and events
are held in
the spacious indoor arena
Right next door is the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science
Arena. The arena is the hub of many equine and other
activities throughout the year. Parking is ample and
inside beautiful wood beams frame the indoor arena which
seats up to 750. The 2,400 sq. foot foyer houses a roomy
concessions/kitchen area. There are also three joinable
classrooms seating 35 to 50 in each and a conference
room with seating for 15.
