Application to our graduate program is a two-step process:
1. Send 3 copies of a writing sample to:
Prof. Davis McCombs, Director Programs in Creative Writing & Translation English Department 333 Kimpel Hall University of Arkansas Fayetteville, AR 72701
Poetry applicants should send 8-10 pages of poetry. Fiction applicants should send approximately 20 pages--either short fiction or a novel excerpt. Translation applicants should send 5-6 pages of poetry OR fiction translated into English, together with copies of the original texts.
We accept applications with postmark dates beginning September 1, 2009 and ending January 4, 2010.
In addition to your writing sample, please include
- a completed Graduate Assistantship Application and all supporting materials
- a self-addressed stamped postcard so that we may confirm receipt of your completed application.
Please note: there is no application fee at this stage of the process. Initially, applications will be evaluated solely on the merits of the writing. Therefore, you should not apply for admission to the Graduate School at this time.
2. If we respond favorably to your sample, we will then provide you with the application forms for the Graduate School.
If you have not heard from us by April 1, feel free to email the Director of the Program.
All application materials are destroyed at the close of each admissions cycle. New materials -- including test scores and letters of recommendation -- must be sent each year that you apply.
