History:
In 1990, the University of Arkansas, in association with the
National University of Ireland, Galway, began offering the
International Writers' Course in Creative Writing.
Program
Description: Writing Workshops, Seminar on Modern
Irish Literature, and thrice-weekly guest readings by Ireland's
most prominent writers (including John McGahern, Theo Dorgan,
Paula Meehan, Mary Morrissy, Pat McCabe, Dermot Healey, Mike
McCormack, Eva Bourke and Gerard Donovan)
Course
Offerings: Both undergraduate and graduate credit
(3 credit hours per course) is available for the following
courses:
Creative
Writing Workshops: Poetry or Fiction (ENGL 3013/5013)
Reading
Ireland: 20th Century Literature (ENGL 398V/510V)
Accommodations:
single lodging with kitchen facilities.
Fieldtrips/Excursions:
the Aran Islands, Inishbofin, The Burren, Yeats' Tower.
Estimated
Program Fee: Approximately $3,900 for undergraduates
(for 6 hours of credit), $4,535 for graduate students (for
6 hours of credit). This fee includes tuition at the University
of Arkansas and fees for study at the National University
Ireland, 4 weeks lodging, guest workshops, and field trips/excursions.
This fee does not include air transportation, meals, passport
fees, personal travel, and incidental expenses.
Financial
Aid and Scholarships: Please contact the Office of
Study Abroad (contact information below) for information regarding
financial assistance. Special scholarships may be available
for Honors students.

Deadline: March 1
Application
Procedure: Complete a UA summer study abroad application
and submit an original writing sample of either fiction (one
short story) or poetry (three poems) to the Office of Study
Abroad. Applications
are available on the web; alternatively you may request
