study abroad: classics
In cooperation with Humanities, the Classical Studies Program offers summer study tours in Greece, Turkey and Italy.
Greece
In odd-numbered years, a four-week study tour of Greece is offered by Prof. Daniel Levine and Lecturer George Paulson. beginning in Athens, the tour moves through the Southern mainland, the Peloponnesse, and Crete, including the sites of Marathon, Delphi, Olympia, Bassi, and Knossos. Two courses are offered for 6 hours of regular or honors credit.
In 2011, Students will travel with Daniel Levine and George Paulson to Greece and Turkey for a month. Please see the details on the U of A Study Abroad Website.
Italy
In even-numbered years, a four-week study tour of Italy is offered by Prof. David Fredrick. The tour spends three weeks in Rome, with overnight trips to Florence and Siena, one week on the Bay of Naples, and one week in Venice and northern Italy. Two courses are offered for 6 hours of regular or honors credit. Visit the program site to learn more.
While we have a lot of fun (and eat a lot of great food), both summer tours are serious academically, requiring site reports, journals, and final papers.
