study abroad: French
Besançon, France
The department began a summer program in Besançon in Summer 2007. This program is designed for students who will have completed at least FREN 2003 by May 2010. This is a four week program from late May to late June. Students will earn 6-7 hours credit in French (the classes they take will obviously vary according to what level of fluency they have). Please contact Dr. Kathy Comfort for more information.
Le Mans, France
The University of Arkansas has a direct exchange program with Université du Maine in Le Mans, France. With this program, students pay fees directly to the U of A and can stay for one semester or one year. In addition, our department actively exchanges a TA from our program with a TA from Le Mans. Contact Dr. Kathy Comfort for more information.
French in Chicoutimi, QuÉbec
A wonderful and affordable full immersion program awaits students of French at the École de Langue Française et de Culture Québécoise (ELFCQ). Located in the heart of the town of Chicoutimi, Québec, ELFCQ allows students the chance to improve language and conversation skills in a region where 96% of its inhabitants are French-speaking. Additionally, a culture component of the program gives students insight into Québécois life. The town of Chicoutimi is widely known for its natural beauty, with rivers, lakes, and mountains all around it. Students have the opportunity to explore the area with fellow students from ELFCQ, the majority of whom are Canadian, but who may also be from numerous countries around the world. For more information contact Dr. Hope Christiansen.
