Films and Lectures
Each year, the German Section regularly sponsors a number of lectures and events that are free and open to the public. Recent events have included:
A presentation of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 film Nosferatu. The German section invited Professor Katrin Schroeter of the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque to introduce and discuss the film. The event was organized by Dr. Hoyer.
A presentation of Ingmar Bergman’s filming of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, co-sponsored by the German section and the music department, which was organized by Dr. Hoyer and Dr. Martin Nedbal. Dr. Nedbal introduced the film prior to the screening, discussing how Bergman attempted to show the universal appeal of Mozart’s story by casting audience members from every region of the world.
The German section (Hoyer) and the History department (Dr. Richard Sonn) co-organized a guest lecture by Dr. Diane Afoumado of the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
In commemoration of the monumental historical event of the Twentieth Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, the German section conducted two full weeks of events with colleagues from around the campus:
