study abroad: swahili
Learning Swahili can serve as a stepping stone to a variety of careers and personal goals. Knowledge of Swahili is an advantage for students interested in the Peace Corps or other volunteer work in East Africa, as well as those seeking employment in the US Foreign Service and a range of international careers. Some students find the background in the fundamentals of linguistics offered in these classes to be useful in pursuing their graduate training in language-related fields. Swahili also provides students with a competitive edge when applying to graduate programs in fields such as History, Anthropology, and International Relations.
Study abroad opportunities in East Africa are available through many institutions. Please contact the Swahili program head, Dr. Billings, for more information.
