Granma province is the site where Fidel Castro and his revolutionary companions landed in the yacht Granma on December 2, 1956. The province borders Santiago de Cuba, Holguín, and Las Tunas Provinces. Its landscape is marked by flat plains in the north and rugged mountains in the south. the plains are host to sugar fields and cattle ranches, and coffee is grown in the Sierra Maestra mountains.
