FOR TEACHERS

Overview:

In this unit, students will be studying families in present-day Mexico. During this unit, students will be able to see how typical Mexican teenagers interact with their families. They will have an inside look at a typical family in Puebla, Mexico, and view the family through the eyes of teenagers.

 

Specialized Vocabulary:

Vocabulary will be presented before each section as needed in order to complete the activities. The main areas of vocabulary to be covered are basic family names, basic food words, household chores, and activities that families do together.

Objectives:

1.) Pre-test: (Una Prueba de Estereotipos):
Students will demonstrate the ability to recognize stereotypes after discussing typical Mexican and American family stereotypes.

2.) Vocabulary Sections: (El Árbol Genealógico, Quehaceres de la Casa, La Lista de Compras, Qué hace la familia méxicana, and Los Fines de Semana) Students will demonstrate knowledge of the key vocabulary concepts by using them in these activities.

3.) Listening Activities: (Cosas, Cosas, y Más Cosas and La Comida) Students will demonstrate comprehension of aural segments by answering multiple choice questions and drawing pictures of what they hear in an interview.

4.) Writing Sections: (El Torero and La Comida) Students will demonstrate their understanding of material presented in Spanish by writing paragraphs and writing an imaginary postcard to a friend.

5.) Proyecto Final: Students will demonstrate an understanding of Mexican families by writing a skit and portraying different family members and situations in a role-play situation.
