
Among the individual pathogens,
the figures break down this way: Illnesses caused by Campylobacter
were down by 27 percent, Salmonella down by 15 percent, Listeria
down by 35 percent, Yersinia down by 49 percent and Shigella
down by 35 percent, all from 1996 to 2001. Measurements of illnesses
caused by E. coli O157:H7 from 2000 to 2001 showed a 21 percent
decrease. Incidence of Vibrio infections were 83 percent higher
from 1996 to 2001.
