Research Interests: Value-added products produced from kenaf, biodegradability of natural and synthetic woven and non-woven fabrics, performance and durability characteristics of outlet versus retail garments.

Foods, Human Nutrition and Hospitality

• Dr. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg (mfitch@uark.edu)
Research Interests: Effects of nutrition on the aging process, clinical nutrition, increasing nutrient intake of individuals using locally and regionally grown products, childhood obesity. Dr. Fitch-Hilgenberg is currently working on a research project which investigates dietary antioxidant status of smokers and non-smokers at different stages of life. She is also screening school-age children for obesity, diabetes, and hypertension.

Research Interests: Dietary supplement use, safety, toxicology and product development, professional ethics and nutrition misinformation, sports nutrition and ergogenic aids, consumer and professional education.

Research Interests: Attitudes toward money; economic psychology and personal financial planning; consumer credit counseling industry and its clients; financial literacy and its public policy; financial stress and its relationship to depression and health.

• Dr. Frank L. Farmer (flfarmer@uark.edu)
Research Interests: Demography, environmental and natural resource sociology, rural health, policy and program evaluation.

• Dr. Timothy Killian (tkillian@uark.edu)
Research Interests: Family care-giving to older persons, family diversity issues, adolescent risk-taking.

• Dr. Sue Martin (ssmartin@uark.edu)
Research Interests: Quality child care, locus of control, self-concept and cognition, acquisition of science and math abilities in children, child guidance technique, distance education. She is currently involved in a research study examining issues related to child care quality. Dr. Martin also provides service in the areas of child development, child care, and parenting-child relationships.

Research Interests: Substance abuse, parenting, family stress.

• Dr. Jean M. Turner (jturner@uark.edu)
Research Interests: Adulthood and aging with special emphasis in quality of living issues for rural elders: care-giving for older family members, intergenerational relationships, parent-in-law-child-in-lawrelationships and their impact on quality of life and other family relationships.

• Dr. Mary Margaret (Peggy) Whan

Research Interests: Economic value and household contribution of men and women, consumer specialization of children, home management practices in family-owned businesses.

Research Interests: Effects of lighting and color in interior environments and critical assessments of luminous environments, behavioral and performance implications of lighting and other variables on the living environments of older adults.

• Dr. Jennifer Webb (jwebb@uark.edu)
Research Interests: Investigations underway include the proxemic variation (or spacing patterns between people) of elderly persons. Reasons for variation being examined include socio-economic status and physical parameters such as vision, hearing, and mobility. She is also currently conducting research on teamwork in the classroom.
