The following goals have been adopted to fulfill the mission of the CFPE.
Goal 1.
Create a nationally recognized center of research leadership with an appropriate balance of fundamental and applied research in program areas that are critical to the food processing industries in Arkansas and the region, including:
- rice and other grain processing/utilization
- poultry, fish and other animal product processing/utilization
- fruit, vegetable, juice and wine processing/utilization
Goal 2.
Develop a nationally and internationally recognized industry
outreach program to:
- Provide technology transfer and problem solving demonstrations that
support processing and value-added projects
- Support new product development through the use of pilot plant facilities
and identify new product markets
- Periodically sponsor proactive seminars and workshops for industry
groups
- Provide technical assistance to new food business entrepreneurs and
assist in educating processors on national and international trends and opportunities
Goal 3.
Develop human capital. This includes but is not limited to:
- Encouraging faculty and staff to participate in colloquim series on timely issues in food processing and engineering, and to travel to state and national meetings as well as industry locations to participate and present at such meetings
- Assisting support and training of graduate students and informing
processing companies about qualified students
- Ascertaining the employment needs of industry so cooperating departments can develop and enhance curricula that will produce highly qualified graduates for employment in the food industry
- Providing training opportunities for industry personnel
