Carpenter Wins 5th Emmy

Prof. Dale Carpenter picked up his fifth Emmy award on Oct. 4 at the 2008 Mid-America Emmy Gala in St. Louis.

At a packed St. Louis banquet hall on Oct. 4, Charlie Crowson lofted an Emmy award and thanked University of Arkansas professors Larry Foley and Dale Carpenter, both in the audience, for helping launch his career.

The J-Blog: UA Art Exhibit Raises Questions About Journalism During the Iraq War

A striking series of images is on exhibit in the UA Fine Arts Center display cases through October. Artist Francesca Pastine calls it her Iraqi Casualty series; she has taken newspaper front pages and blacked out everything but a few words and some small photos that represent casualties of the Iraq War. She says the tedious work of rubbing graphite over the pages was her penance for her “impotence in the face of insurmountable geopolitical forces and the shrugging indifference they perpetuate.”
