Graduate Fellowships in the department of Mathematical Sciences
- Provided by the Walton Family Foundation through the University of
Arkansas Graduate School, the department can offer 6 Doctoral Academy
Fellowships annually. The Doctoral Academy Fellowship provides
$5,000 annually in addition to the assistantship stipend, for up to 4
years. The award also halves the assistantship duties (to no more than
10 hours per week) for the first year of study. An applicant who has an undergraduate gpa of at
least 3.5 or a graduate gpa of 3.65, a general GRE Verbal + Quantitative of
1200 and a GRE writing score of 5.0 will automatically be considered for
this award.
- Provided by the Walton Family Foundation through the University of
Arkansas Graduate School, the department can offer 1 Distinguished
Doctoral Fellowship annually. The Distinguished Doctoral
Fellowship provides $30,000 per year (with no assistantship duties for the first year) for up
to 4 years. An applicant who has a gpa of 3.8, a general GRE Verbal +
Quantitative of 1300 and a GRE writing score of 5.5 will automatically be
considered for this award.
- From a fund bequeathed by Dr. Lillian Massie Reed, in honor of her father,
John C. Massie, the department awards Massie Fellowships
each summer to PhD candidates working on their dissertation. The
number and amount of awards varies, but in recent years has been roughly
$4,500 each summer distributed among 3 to 5 students. Each Spring
semester faculty are requested to submit letters of support for PhD students
actively working on their dissertation. The graduate committee makes
fellowship awards based on these letters.
