Lowell Nissen's area of specialization is philosophy of science. He is the author of John Dewey's Theory of Inquiry and Truth and the co-author with Thomas Vernon of Reflective Thinking: The Fundamentals of Logic (1968, rev. 1976) and author of Teleological Langauge in the Life Sciences (1997). His articles have been published in Mind, British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, Studies in the History and Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Science, and other scholarly journals. He is currently working on recent theories of teleological language in biology.
