Atomic and Optical

Quantum optics, photon statistics, nonlinear optics, atomic physics, optical pulse propagation, laser spectroscopy, photothermal and photoacoustic spectroscopy, and optical data storage. Faculty: Gea-Banacloche, Gupta, Oliver, Salamo, Vyas, Xiao, and Singh.

Condensed Matter

Building high density electronics using bulk and thin-film high-Tc superconductors and thin-film diamond, Raman, Brillouin, and dynamic light scattering. High pressure physics, crystal growth, ultrasonics, the physics of novel magnetic materials, and growth and characterization of semiconductor heterostructures. Faculty: Bellaiche, Oliver, Salamo, and Thibado.

Theoretical Physics

Interaction of radiation and matter, squeezed states, multiphoton processes, chaos, photon statistics, nonlinear optics, atomic collisions, structure, quantum field theory, and dynamics and spectroscopy of polyatomic molecules. Faculty:Bellaiche, Gea-Banacloche, Harter, Lieber, and Vyas.

Nanoscience

We host an NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Center along with the University of Oklahoma. The emphasis of our Center is on nanoscience and nanotechnology, including the growth and charactersation of semiconductor nanostructures. Faculty: Salamo, Xiao, Thibado

Astronomy

Observational astronomy of eclipsing binaries, spotted stars, and flare stars. (MS only) Faculty: Lacy.

Physics Education

Develop and implement interactive learning techniques. (MS only) Faculty: Hobson, Stewart.

Computer Simulations

Development of instructional graphical animation programs, teaching of programming techniques for computer simulations of physical systems. Faculty: Harter.

Microelectronics-
Photonics

An interdisciplinary program to support research in laser light and its interaction with solid state materials and quantum devices. Faculty: Vickers, Xiao, Thibado, Salamo, Oliver, Bellaiche

Space and Planetary Sciences

An interdisciplinary program associated with the Arkansas-Oklahoma Center for Space and Planetary Sciences. Faculty: Lacy.
