Program Dates: May 17–July 24, 2009

Students will perform frontier research in optics, quantum and nonlinear optics, and in relevant areas of materials science, biophysics, and nanoscience:

*Experimental and Theoretical Projects
*Nonlinear and Quantum Optics
*Optical Properties of Nanoparticles (see picture)
*Optical Properties of Materials at High Pressure
*Electronic Properties of Complex Oxide Nano-structures
*Multiple Quantum Well Structures
*Optical Methods for Biophysics

Proj. 7 Set-Up

Additional activities include: Planned social events, a float down the Buffalo National River, a field trip to the Dallas area, and seminars on ethics, use of a research library, and technical writing and presentations.

Stipend: $4400, plus:
Room and Board Allowance sufficient to cover a dormitory and meal plan,
Travel Support is available, and
Dallas Road Trip: July 10 -13 to high-tech industrial labs, with second day at Six Flags.
Eligibility: Physics Majors or those in a fields related to Optics and Materials Science.
