The Department of Plant Pathology is privileged to announce the C. Roy Adair Undergraduate Research Internship Program. This program is funded by an endowment established to honor the late Dr. C. Roy Adair, a geneticist and plant breeder, whose accomplishments helped establish the preeminence of the Arkansas rice industry.
The internship program enables students to become active participants in research projects. By providing hands-on experience, the internships will facilitate the student’s transition from undergraduate to graduate education. Eligible students must be in the upper 25% of their class and have completed 90 credits or more toward their undergraduate degree. Students who will complete their degree in May 2008 are also eligible. Applicants should have qualities of leadership as evidenced by their standing among fellow students and faculty, and also show need of financial assistance in furthering their education.
Interns will participate full-time for the summer semester with research faculty in Plant Pathology on applied or basic research projects relevant to the understanding and control of plant diseases and other pests. Interns will actively contribute to the entire scientific process of developing a testable hypothesis, experimental planning and design, conducting experimental work, data collection and analysis, and oral and written reporting of results.
The Internship Program for Summer 2008 will commence on or about May 21, 2008. The total stipend will be approximately $5,600, which includes a housing and board allotment. Interns are required to register for the summer session, receiving research credits for the program, and are required to pay registration and student fees as appropriate. Participants are encouraged to reside in available residence halls on the Fayetteville campus or find their own housing. The Adair scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for getting experience doing hands-on research.
The application deadline is March 15, 2008. Successful applicants will be notified by April 7, 2008. Application forms and further information are available by contacting:
