Dr. Park Waldroup


Dr. Park Waldroup is University Professor of Poultry Nutrition and he holds the Novus International Distinguished Professorship. He received a B.S. (Poultry Science) from the University of Tennessee, ranking first in his graduating class. As an undergraduate, he served as president of the National Collegiate Poultry Club. His M.S. (Poultry Nutrition/Organic Chemistry) and Ph.D. (Animal Nutrition/ Biochemistry) degrees were obtained at the University of Florida, where he was a Ralston Purina Research Fellow and received the Phi Sigma Outstanding Student in Biological Sciences award. He was an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida for two years before accepting a similar position at the University of Arkansas in 1966. He advanced through the professional ranks and was promoted to University Professor in 1987. During his career he has published more than 400 papers in refereed journals and has guided over 60 students to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Dr. Waldroup has presented invited seminars in over 50 countries.

Dr. Waldroup is a member of the Poultry Science Association, the American Institute of Nutrition, World's Poultry Science Association, Southern Poultry Science Society, Alpha Zeta, Phi Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Xi, and Gamma Sigma Delta honorary and professional societies. He was a founding member and served as the first president of the Southern Poultry Science Society. He serves as Associate Editor for Poultry Science and the Journal of Applied Poultry Research. Dr. Waldroup has served as a member of the Poultry Nutrition Subcommittee of the National Research Council since 1981, responsible for evaluating published literature to establish nutritional standards for poultry. His research has been recognized by the American Feed Manufacturer's Nutrition Research Award, the John W. White Research Award presented by the University of Arkansas, the American Soybean Association Market Development Award, and the Distiller's Research Council Distinguished Nutrition Award. Dr. Waldroup was selected as the first recipient of the National Broiler Council Research Award. He received the Arkansas Alumni Association Distinguished Research Award and was made a Fellow of the Poultry Science Association in 1996.

Dr. Waldroup conducts research with broilers and turkeys to determine nutrient requirements and interactions, to evaluate new or modified feed ingredients, to compare feeding and management systems and to develop computer models to emulate growth and development of broilers and turkeys. Emphasis is placed on relationship of nutrition to carcass composition. In recent years Dr. Waldroup's research has focused upon feeding and management of the large male broiler and upon nutrient requirements during the withdrawal period.
