Dr. Katrina Miller has worked as a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Arkansas Rehabilitation Research and Training Center since November, 2001. She completed her Ed.D. in Deaf Education & Deaf Studies at Lamar University, at Beaumont, Texas. In 1990, Dr. Miller helped to establish the first telecommunications relay service in the state of Alaska. A nationally certified counselor, she has worked in the Deaf community for over 10 years in a variety of roles, including job coach, case manager, and counselor at Oregon School for the Deaf. Dr. Miller has worked as a sign language interpreter with deaf people frequently in correctional and mental health settings, and is the co-author of a novelty book entitled "You Might Be A Sign Language Interpreter If " She has also published a number of research papers addressing the communication needs of Deaf people who interact with the criminal justice system. Her current research projects focus on job coaching with deaf people who have minimal language skills and/or multiple disabilities, and the development of culturally appropriate rehabilitation outreach methods for indigenous people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind. She has taught Psychology of Deafness and American Sign Language courses, and currently teaches Psychological Aspects of Disability. |
