Graduate Training Programs
Center
faculty also maintain a continuing involvement in the preservice training
of rehabilitation graduate students by overseeing two Masters of Science
programs, supported by the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA).
These two long-term training projects are designed to prepare graduates
with knowledge and expertise in the provision of vocational rehabilitation/independent
living skills training with deaf and hard of hearing persons. The programs
stress knowledge and skill in: a) vocational assessment; b) case
management; c) vocational planning, preparation, and placement; d) program
management and administration; and e) independent living and adjustment
services.
To date, a more than 500
undergraduate and/or graduate students have enrolled in university courses
taught by RT-31 faculty at our Little Rock location, with over 100 graduate
students completing their masters degree with a specialization in rehabilitation
of persons who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Graduates of the program
are employed in a wide range of jobs throughtout the United States.
Although a majority are employed in deafness rehabilitation and independent
living programs, a number have pursued careers in related areas such
as: service to persons who are deaf-blind, trainers for regional interpreter
training programs, mental health programs serving persons who are deaf
or hard of hearing, and as human resource development specialists in
business and industry.
Traineeships are available
for qualifying individuals. This funding covers tuition, university
fees, and provides a monthly stipend.
