Course Components
The Spring International TEFL Teaching Certificate program will consist of 150 hours of instruction, observations, and hands-on practice in practical teaching skills for teaching English in a foreign setting. To earn a TEFL Certificate, you must successfully complete the following program components:
COMPONENT ONE - Pre-Program E-Learning ModuleThe Pre-Program E-Learning Module will include background readings and information on language acquisition, EFL methods, and getting a job abroad. Students must complete the module before workshops and practicum sessions begin. Class sessions will build on the background knowledge from the module.COMPONENT TWO - Workshops and PracticumClasses will be held from 8:30 – 11:30 am and 1:00 – 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. Attendance at class sessions is mandatory for successful completion of the course. Readings*, written work, and other assignments will be given to reinforce class practice. Workshop sessions will include time for student teaching demonstrations, observation hours in Spring International's Intensive English program, and practicum hours which allow students to co-teach and lead activities with ESL students. * Required textbook: Teaching by Principles: An Interactive Approach to Language Pedagogy (3rd Edition), H. Douglas BrownCOMPONENT THREE - E-Learning Follow-Up ModuleThe follow-up assignments included in the E-Learning Follow-Up Module will require students to synthesize what they have learned and prepare a teaching portfolio.
