On Campus Residence Halls (UA Conditionally Admitted Students Only) Cost: Price varies upon residence hall availability Detailed information about campus residence halls is available at housing.uark.edu Prices on the Housing website are based upon an academic year (August-May). SILC students must submit a SILC Housing Application to jbowie@uark.edu if they want to live in a residence hall. All students living in a residence hall must purchase a meal plan for the University of Arkansas dining centers (i.e. cafeterias). Meal plan:$1,327.00 per semester and up Advantages: • Easy access to campus facilities, computers, gyms, libraries, Spring International classrooms, UA transit stops, and shopping • Kitchens and free laundry room on site • Free cable TV access and cable internet services • Chance to live in an intergrated American & International community Considerations: The University of Arkansas requires freshman students to live in campus residence halls. This option is restricted to Freshmen students with conditional admission to the university. • Shared room (limited single rooms available at a higher cost) • Learning to get along with a roommate is sometimes a challenge • Community bathrooms on each floor. Bathrooms are cleaned daily. Georgetown Square (Off Campus) Cost (2 Residents per Apartment): Approximately $1,100.00 per 9-week term per person and $250 security deposit to be returned if apartment is in good condition upon departure. Cost (3-4 Residents per Apartment): Approximately $900.00 per 9-week term per person and $250 security deposit to be returned if apartment is in good condition upon departure. For those who do not want to cook, food is available at various places on and off campus. Advantages: • Easy access to campus facilities, computers, gyms, libraries, Spring International classrooms, UA transit stops, and shopping • Opportunities to interact with other international students from many other countries • Kitchens in the apartments and laundry facilities on the site • Shopping, groceries and restaurants are nearby. • Free cable TV and cable internet services • Telephone Service Considerations: LIMITED AVAILABILITY For Graduate and Upper Classmen • A 9-week contract is required for the term • Limited personal attention • Two to four people per 2-bedroom apartment • Learning to get along with an apartment mate is sometimes a challenge • Need to clean your own bathroom, kitchen and bedroom Noble Oaks (Off Campus) Cost (2 Residents per 1 Bedroom Apartment): Approximately $900.00 per 9-week term per person and $200 security deposit to be returned if apartment is in good condition upon departure. Cost (Single or Family Occupancy): Approximately $1800.00 per 9-week term per person and $200 security deposit to be returned if apartment is in good condition upon departure. Advantages: • Easy access to campus facilities, computers, gyms, libraries, Spring International classrooms, UA transit stops, and shopping • Opportunities to interact with other international students from many other countries • Kitchen, washing machine and dryer in the apartment • Bed linens, towels, cookware, microwave are provided • Shopping, groceries and restaurants are nearby. • Free cable TV and cable internet services • Telephone Service Considerations: For Graduate and Upper Classmen VERY LIMITED AVAILABILITY • A 9-week contract is required for the term • Limited personal attention • One-bedroom apartment (double occupancy) • Learning to get along with an apartment mate is sometimes a challenge • Need to clean your own bathroom, kitchen and bedroom Off Campus Apartments Cost (Unfurnished): • 1 bedroom: $350 and up, plus additional deposit • 2 bedroom: $400 and up, plus additional deposit Cost (Furnished): • 1 bedroom: $400 and up, plus additional deposit • 2 bedroom: $450 and up, plus additional deposit Advantages: • Freedom to do as you please • Can choose location • Save money, if you are willing to share a bedroom • Choose your own roommate • Prepare own food Considerations: • Expensive - You will have to pay deposits and monthly bills for telephone, gas, TV cable, internet, etc. • Most apartments require a three to six month lease • You must provide sheets, towels, pillows, dishes, pots, pans, TV, phone, food, etc. VERY COSTLY for short stays • Need to clean your own apartment Homestay with an American Family Cost: $500 per month Living with an American family(Breakfast and dinner included) Advantages: • An opportunity to see how Americans live • A good chance for you to improve your English • Two meals a day are provided • Transportation to and from school is provided Considerations: For Graduate and Upper Classmen VERY LIMITED AVAILABILITY • Living with strangers • You may not enjoy the local foods or cooking style • Cultural differences may arise between you and your host • May live a 15-20 minute drive from the university • You will be part of the family. You must spend time with your family and respect their rules.
