Our impact on the world

Fiber Optic Vision

Arkansas alumnus Robert D. Maurer was a co-inventor of fiber optic cable, the biggest innovation in land communication since Edison called Watson. Maurer didn't put his work on hold, though, making far-reaching contributions to improving technology and communications. He has received the Ericsson Medal, the International Prize for New Materials, the John Tyndall Award, and the American Innovator Award of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and he has been inducted into the National Inventors' Hall of Fame.
