Human Resource Development
Non-Cohort Courses:
Practicums and Technical Courses

Workforce Development Education Programs
Department of Rehabilitation, Human Resources and Communication Disorders
College of Education and Health Professions
University of Arkansas
Fayetteville, Arkansas

Undergraduate Human Resource Development (HRD) are required to complete at least 15 credit hours of non-cohort course work.  Non-cohort courses consist of Practicums and Web-based courses for Technical requirements.

Practicum courses, all numbered HRDV 4603-4693, provide students with practical opportunities to apply the theories, principles, and techniques of HRD from their prerequisite HRD Cohort classes to the Real World--ideally, as part of their current job--and learn from the experience. Each of the eight specified Practicums has its own prerequisite HRD Cohort course. Any four of the 3-hour Practicums will satisfy the 12-hour Practicum requirement. Additional Practicum credit above the 12-hour minimum counts toward HRD Technical requirements.  Practicums are offered in various semesters during the school year (see below). The prerequisite HRD Cohort course and its follow-on Practicum cannot be taken in the same semester.

Three web-based non-cohort HRDV courses are taken to satisfy Technical requirements in the HRD plan of study.  . HRDV 3403 Employment Law is required for graduation.  HRDV 3503 Workforce Behavior is optional for Technical credit, but a prerequisite for HRDV 450V Experiential Learning, which is how credit can be awarded for professional certifications or training reviewed by the American Council on Education.

HRD students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor before taking any non-cohort class to ensure U of A Residency Requirements will be met.
