Sabbe

Released:
2002
Identifier:
PI614729
Citation:

Attributes:
The phenotype of AR 656-5-1 is rather unique and more typical of European wheat cultivars than American cultivars. Compared to typical cultivars in Arkansas, the stem is thicker, the number of tillers is reduced, spikes are blocky and the leaves are shorter and wider. It has excellent winter hardiness and excellent straw strength. Quality results indicate very good milling and baking characteristics. Sabbe has not been tested extensively outside of Arkansas but has been entered in the uniform eastern and southern test this year. It was also entered into nine state trials in the soft wheat region. Sabbe tends to perform best when higher rates of nitrogen and a fungicide are applied.
