Welcome to the Mack-Blackwell Rural Transportation Center
at the University of Arkansas
The Mack-Blackwell Rural Transportation Center (MBTC), a study center for education and research in rural transportation, was authorized by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 and operates as an US Department of Transportation University Transportation Center (UTC).
MBTC's vision is to improve local transportation systems and transcend rural needs by connecting the rural to the urban, the urban to the nation, and the nation to the world's transportation system through our research impacts, trained transportation professionals, and technology transfer activities.

The Mack-Blackwell Transportation Center is also a member of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Transportation Security Center of Excellence (TSCOE) and is developing a comprehensive research, education, and training program to support ongoing and future efforts of DHS. The focus of the TSCOE is the security of the intermodal transportation systems of the United States at the local, state, and national levels.
MBTC's vision as part of the TSCOE is to be a nationally-recognized research and education center dedicated to solving critcal scientific and technological issues related to transportation security and producing transportation professionals capable of leading public and private sector efforts aimed at providing U.S. citizens a safe and secure comprehensive transportation system.
