Practical Training in the Fundamentals of Molecular Biology
Summary: This workshop is sponsored by the Center for Food Safety, IFSE and the Department of Food Science at the University of Arkansas and is intended for people who wish to strengthen their understanding of principles and practical techniques of of molecular biology and its applications to the food industry.
Lecture topics include;
1) Basic Microbial Genetics: DNA replication, Transcription, Translation
2) Principles of Biotechnology: DNA isolation/purification, PCR, Gel Electrophoresis
Laboratory exercises will include;
3) Genomic and Plasmid DNA isolation
4) Determination of DNA concentration and purity
5) PCR and agarose gel electrophoresis
Date and Time: This workshop will be held on several dates ( October 28-29) 2009 and (March 24-25, April 28-29, May 26-27, June 23-24, July 28-29, August 25-26, September 22-23, October 27-28, 2010). Each workshop will last from 8am - 5pm each day.
Location: The workshop will be held at the Biomass Center on the farm at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville campus.

Accommodations: There are many fine hotels in the area but the Cosmopolitan Hotel (479-442-5555) usually has rooms available.
Registration: You are encouraged to register at least two weeks in advance of the workshop. The University of Arkansas has a $550.00 registration fee. Please submit your registration at least two weeks in advance of the workshop. Course space will be filled in order of receipt of registration. Those accepted into the course will receive confirmation. Registration will close after the course is filled. If you need special accommodations due to disability, please contact Steven C.
