FOOD PROTECTION WORKSHOP

Summary: This workshop is sponsored by the Institute of Food Science and Engineering at the University of Arkansas, the Food and Drug Administration and the Ozark Food Processors Association (OFPA). It is intended for entrepreneurs, small businesses and employees of food companies needing to lean more about food safety and food defense. This workshop provides awareness, planning and coordination of food defense to meet food safety and defense audits criteria. This workshop is planned for April 4-5, 2011.

Some of the topics to be discussed include;
(1) Food Defense Plans
(2) Good Manufacturing Practices
(3) Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
(4) Reportable Food Registry
(5) Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
(6) Food Recalls
(7) Food Safety Modernization Act
(8) Pathogens of Public Health Concern
(9) Risk Management and Vulnerability Assessments

Date and Time: This public workshop will be held April 4 (8a.m. to 5p.m), and April 5 (8a.m. to 4 p.m).

Air travel should be arranged to fly into Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport.

Accommodations; There are many fine hotels in the area but the Holiday Inn is on the same building site as the workshop.

Registration: You are encouraged to register by March 28, 2011. The University of Arkansas has a $300 registration fee to cover the cost of facilities, materials, speakers, and breaks. Seats are limited; Please submit your registration as soon as possible. Course space will be filled in order of receipt of registration. Those accepted into the course will receive confirmation. Registration will close after the course is filled. If you need special accommodations due to a disability, please contact Steven C. Seideman (see Contact above) at least 7 days in advance. You can register by either filling out the online registration form or the mail-in registration form. If you use the online registration form, please bring a check or money order to the workshop. If you use the mail-in form, please complete the form and submit along with a check or money order for $300 payable to the "University of Arkansas".
