Our current research is directed toward investigating semiconductor quantum structures, including quantum wells, quantum dots, and nanorods for electronic and optoelectronic applications. While the objective and focus are changing depending on the properties of the new quantum structures, the main emphasis remains on the following:
- Growth of quantum structures using molecular beam epitaxy and chemical vapor depositions.
- Evaluation of materials properties including optical, electrical and structural characterization.
- Device processing including infrared detectors, long wavelength infrared detectors, photovotaic devices, edge-emitting laser diodes, VCSLs, and HFETs, etc.
- Device fabrication, evaluation, and testing.
- Theoretical modeling of materials and devices including band structure calculations.
One of our goals is to train our students to maximize career options by developing creative and technical skills and by providing a clear view of the excitement and value attached to the pursuit of higher degrees. Our research and educational approach is to encourage innovation and create a program that provides a nurturing pathway for a college freshman to a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.
