welcome to your assignment on Paul Zanker:

"The Power of Images in Augustan Rome"

This chapter really blew my mind--it's an amazing analysis of Augustus' attempts to unify the political and physical fabric of Rome, using a fairly narrow range of imagery and concepts. There's a lot here to compare and contrast with Vergil's approach to Roman history in the Aeneid.

SO! Your task is to read the chapter (split into two parts), and write a 5-6 page, double spaced set of answers to the questions below. Essay format is not necessary. We will use your answers as the basis for a classroom discussion next Tuesday (the last day of class) on Vergil's "Rome" vs. Augustus' Rome. THIS ASSIGNMENT IS WORTH 50 PTS.
