| GENERAL INFORMATION:
The 2008 Miss University of Arkansas Scholarship Pageant will be held on
January 19, 2008 in the Arkansas Union Ballroom. This is a Miss America
preliminary pageant. The new Miss U of A will compete in the Miss
Arkansas Scholarship Pageant in July of 2008. Contestants should
get the additional forms required from the Miss Arkansas website: www.missarkansas.org.
Your paperwork packet should contain our local application along with the
Miss Arkansas forms needed for entry into the Miss University of Arkansas
Pageant and is to be mailed to the address listed at the bottom of this
form – or may be dropped off in the Director’s office in Bud Walton Arena
– Room M-108. Please provide 6 copies of your fact sheet and platform
statement paperwork. Please note the checklist for contestant’s to
use as a guide before you mail your paperwork in. Deadline to enter
is December 4, 2007. Contestant numbering will be based on a lottery
system. Anyone without their completed paperwork and sponsorship
fee in by the deadline will be accepted, but they will be #1 in the line
up. |
| ENTRY FEE:
The entry fee is $75.00 to enter. You must obtain a sponsor to pay
that fee, we cannot accept personal checks. Fees must be paid by
the deadline. Checks should be payable to the Miss University of
Arkansas. |
| CHILDRENS MIRACLE NETWORK FEE:
Beginning last summer Miss America and all of their preliminaries teamed
up to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. In order to
compete in the Miss University of Arkansas Scholarship Pageant $100 must
be raised for the CMN. The men of Kappa Sigma Fraternity have agreed
to pay this fee for the 1st 15 contestants! So be early. We
are working on another fraternity to agree to pay the rest but cannot guarantee
that! |
| PRODUCTION /
MODELING REHEARSAL: Rehearsal will be Thursday, January 17th
at the University of Arkansas Ballroom. A complete rehearsal time schedule
will be sent out to you but Id plan on a 6-9pm type of thing. BE
ON TIME!! This will be a practice run-through for all contestants.
Bring your swimsuit with you to be checked. Rehearsal is mandatory! |
| TALENT REHEARSAL:
Rehearsal will be Thursday, January 17th. We have the ballroom from
12-4pm and you will be asked to sign up for a 15 minute window that fits
with your class schedule. You must be on time for your time slot.
Bring 2 copies of your talent music with you. You will have the opportunity
to practice your talent 2 times on-stage. Rehearsal is mandatory! |
| INTERVIEWS:
The interviews will be held beginning either Friday night or Saturday morning
depending on what time the judges can get here and how many contestants
we have. Interviews will follow the Miss Arkansas and Miss America
guidelines. You must be prepared to make an closing statement.
Interviews will consist of questions from your fact sheet, current events,
critical issue form, University issues, etc. Location is still being
worked out but it will either be at the Alumni House or a local hotel. |
COMPETITION:
Competition will include the following:

Interview: A 10 minute private interview
– ( 9 minute and 15 second standing interview with a podium will
follow) . At the end of the 9 minutes, the contestant will have 45
seconds to cover any additional issues that she would like to comment on
or clarify. (25% of score)

Physical Fitness in Swimsuit: On-stage
modeling of a one-piece or two-piece swimsuit with heels. Any swimsuit,
in good taste may be worn. Swimsuits will be checked at rehearsal.

is designed to see how well the contestant maintains a lifestyle of good
physical health, whether she meets the public expectation of a title holder
and whether or not she has the confidence needed to be a title holder.
(15% of score)

Talent: Talent may be anything you choose
that does not cause any health, fire or safety hazards to the audience
or damage to the ballroom, and will be limited to 2 minutes. Background
music must be on CD. Bring two copies with you to rehearsal.
(35% of score)

On-stage Question: One on-stage question
from the contestant’s interview will be asked of each contestant.
This phase of competition is designed for the contestant to make an on-stage
statement of her interests, opinions and aspirations. There will also be
a word drawn from a bowl on-stage; each contestant should describe what
the word means to them. Contestants will be wearing matching red cocktail
dresses provided to us by Venue in the Heights – a dress store in Little
Rock - during this phase of competition. (5% of score)

Evening Wear: The evening wear phase
of competition is designed for the judges to assess the contestant’s beauty,
poise, grace and commanding stage presence. (20% of score).
In this phase you will be escorted by a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.

| ELIGIBILITY:
You must be between the ages of 17 and 24 years, have completed at least
12 hours at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville (6 if you are a graduate
student) and currently be enrolled full time for the Spring 2008 semester.
You must have always been female and never been married or had a child.
You must be in good standing with the University. You must
be a citizen of the United States and never have been convicted of any

| DRESSING ROOMS:
No one but contestants will be allowed in the dressing rooms. No
hairdressers or makeup artists will be allowed in the U of A Union.
Contestants should bring their own hanging racks and mirrors as well. |
| HAIR AND MAKE
UP: Gaines McNeese will be available to do hair and make up for
$40 and she’ll change your hair and make up all night for that price.
She will be the only hair and make up person allowed backstage. If

but will be at Miss UA for the weekend! |
| PHOTOS:
A current color, head and shoulders photograph must be submitted with your
paperwork. This photo will be used for the program. All photos
may be picked up in the dressing rooms the night of the pageant.
Photos must be 4x5 in size (or larger) and must be of high resolution so
that they print well. |
| TICKETS:
There will be general admission seating in the ballroom. We will
try to reserve 2 seats per contestant near the front – but tickets still
have to be purchased. Tickets will go on-sale at rehearsal. General
Admission tickets cost $10.00 for adults. All students 4 years and
older are $7.00. College students will get that rate with their student
id. Children 3 years and under are free. |
| CONGRATULATORY ADS:
Contestants are urged to sell congratulatory ads in the program book.
Each page will sell for $85.00, a half page is $45.00, a quarter page is
$25.00, and a business card is $15.00. More than one business or
person may contribute to each ad or page. All ads must be camera-ready.
We will not be responsible for mistakes. Ad pages must be turned
in with your paperwork. |
| PERFORMANCE PHOTOS:
You’ve Got the Look Photography will be the official photographers for
the pageant. An order form will be available the night of the pageant
or their contact information can be obtained from the director. |
| PERFORMANCE VIDEOS:
Blue Horizon Productions will be on hand to tape Interviews as well as
the Pageant. An order form can be picked up the night of the pageant.
Please do not bring in any other outside personal cameras or video cameras
in the ballroom. |
