Miss University of Arkansas Princess Pageant 2008
GENERAL INFORMATION:  Contestants must reside in the state of Arkansas. Only accepting Contestants ages 8 to 12 (age day of pageant). The 2008 Miss U of A Scholarship Pageant rehearsal will be on Thursday January 17th and the pageant will be held on January 19th, Saturday evening 7pm, at the Ballroom.  The newly crowned Princess U of A will have the opportunity to travel to the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant in July 2008 with the new Miss U of A as their Diamond State Princess.   This is strictly optional, but highly encouraged.  Contestants should get the form required for this pageant by emailing:  missuofa@uark.edu and mail them, along with your photo(s) to the P.O. Box listed on this form.  Please provide 4 copies of your paperwork.  DEADLINE TO ENTER IS January 10th, 2008.  DEADLINE TO GET PHOTO IN THE PROGRAM BOOK IS DECEMBER 20TH, 2007!!!! Only the first 20 contestants will be accepted, so mail in your entry early!  Contestant’s numbering will be based on a first in, last out system.  Once your paperwork is received, you will be sent a confirmation email, along with a schedule of events for the weekend.
ENTRY FEES: Princess Contestants must pay $50.00 to enter the pageant. Photogenic is optional and $10.00. Entry fees must be received by the deadline or the contestant may not be able to enter.  Local sponsorships are encouraged. Checks should be made out to: Miss U of A Scholarship Organization.
DRESS REHEARSAL:  Rehearsal will be Thursday January 17th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at the Ballroom. BE ON TIME!!  This will be a practice run-through for all contestants and modeling patterns will be shown.  They will also be learning the production numbers. Parents/family are welcome to attend rehearsal.  Rehearsal is mandatory! Your child can not be in the pageant or production if they do not attend.
PRODUCTION NUMBERS: All Princess should wear their casual wear outfit for the opening production number ALL Princess contestants will perform in the production number.  The choreography will be taught at rehearsal
COMPETITION:  Competition will include the following:
  1.  Evening Wear:  The evening wear phase of competition is designed for the judges to assess the contestant’s beauty, poise, grace and commanding stage presence.  Evening gown competition may be a long or short party dress.  Pageant attire is encouraged.  (60% of Score)
  2. Casual Wear:  This phase of competition is designed for the contestant to present herself as a dynamic, contemporary, beautiful and natural young lady.  The casual wear should complement the contestant’s personality and express her style and preferences. This same outfit will be worn during opening number and during the production number. Casual wear outfits should something Arkansas / Razorback / University of Arkansas themed – such as red, white or black shirts with jeans. (40% of score)
  3. Photogenic:  This is an optional category to enter.  Photos must be current in the last 12 months.  Black and white or color photos are acceptable for photogenic, but photos will run in color for the program book.  They must be at least a 4 X 5 or larger to enter.  No wallets will be accepted.  Natural looking head shots are encouraged. No glitz pictures please!    You can send one picture for the program book and one for the photogenic if you’d like.
Please note if you send only one picture it will be used for the program book.  If you are sending two, please note which one should be used for photogenic.  Pictures should be mailed in with your paperwork.  Please put the contestant’s name and phone number on the back of the picture.  They can be picked up in the dressing room designated for the contestants after the pageant.  Photogenic winners will receive an award on-stage.  The photogenic winner will not be included in the overall scoring of the pageant.  Program book will be printed in color so feel free to send a color photo but remember printing deadline is December 20th!
IMPORTANT!
  • CONTESTANTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO HAVE ONE PERSON JOIN THEM IN THE DRESSING ROOM DURING THE PAGEANT. NO HAIRDRESSERS OR MAKEUP ARTISTS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE U OF A UNION.  HAIR AND MAKEUP SHOULD BE DONE BEFORE THE CONTESTANT ARRIVES AT THE BALLROOM. 
  • Gaines McNeese <nolas179@yahoo.com> will be our official hairdresser and make up artist and will be the only one allowed backstage.  You do HAVE to use her but her services will be available for $25 .00 and she’ll be set up backstage all evening for touch ups as well.
  • EACH CONTESTANT WILL BE GIVE ONLY ONE PASS FOR THEIR PARENT TO USE. SPACE WILL BE LIMITED AND IT’S A GOOD IDEA TO BRING HANGING RACKS AND MIRRORS IF NEEDED. 
  • ONCE THEIR CONTESTANT IS DRESSED, THE PARENT SHOULD GO BACK TO THE AUDIENCE AND NOT STAY IN THE DRESSING ROOM DURING THE PAGEANT.  THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED! THERE WILL BE A SECTION OF SEATS BLOCKED OFF FOR THE CONTESTANTS TO SIT IN BETWEEN COMPETITION SHOULD TIME ALLOW AND THEY WILL HAVE A MISS UA BOARD MEMBER SERVING AS CHAPERONE WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES. 
  • IF YOUR DAUGHTER IS ALREADY ATTENDING THE MISS ARKANSAS PAGEANT AS A DIAMOND STATE PRINCESS, WE RESPECTFULLY ASK THAT YOU ALLOW ANOTHER CONTESTANT THE SAME OPPORTUNITY BY BEING OUR GUEST INSTEAD OF A CONTESTANT IN THE MISS UA PAGEANT.  WE WOULD LOVE TO INTRODUCE YOUR DAUGHTER DURING THE PAGEANT AS LOCAL ROYALTY.  THE WINNER OF MISS UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS PRINCESS WILL BE AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE TO TRAVEL WITH MISS UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS TO BE ON STAGE DURING MISS ARKANSAS IN HOT SPRINGS DURING THE JULY OF 2008.  
  • NO SCORES WILL BE GIVEN OUT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.  
TICKETS:  There will be general admission seating in the ballroom.  Tickets will go on-sale at rehearsal. General admission tickets are $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for all students and children ages 4 years and older.  Children 3 years and under are free.    
PERFORMANCE PHOTOS:  You’ve Got the Look Photography will be the official photographers for the pageant.  An order form will be mailed  or emailed to you – plus they will be available for purchase at rehearsal.  There will be photos take from all phases of the competition.  The photos are all color.  The photographer will be seated by the judges so great photos will be captured!  
PERFORMANCE VIDEOS:  Blue Horizon Productions will serve as the official videographer at our pageant.  An order form can be picked up at the pageant.  Please do not bring in any other outside personal cameras or video cameras in the ballroom. Their dvds will sell for $35 and will include the entire pageant.
