The Russian Language Program offers four years of Russian, from elementary Russian (for those with no previous knowledge of Russian) through advanced. A Business Russian course, taught by a native Russian speaker experienced in business, is in the process of being developed. Current courses include the following:

The Russian Language Program offers, in addition to four years of language courses, three literature courses in English translation for students interested in enhancing their knowledge of Russian culture. Students can also use these courses for credit in the 2nd half of the World Literature requirement:
RUSS/WLIT 4123 Survey of Russian Literature from its beginnings to the Revolution. Writers covered include Pushkin, Lermontov, Turgenev, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Chekhov. RUSS/WLIT 4133 Survey of Russian Literature Since the Revolution. Writers covered include Zamiatin, Babel, Bulgakov, Shalamov, Olesha, Erofeev. FLAN 3923H Dostoevsky. An examination of the major works.
The Russian Studies Major, requiring 3 years of Russian language study, 18 hours of electives, and a colloquium, can be readily combined with another major.
Students are encouraged to apply to the summer program at Indiana University's SWSEEL (Summer Workshop in Slavic and East European Languages); a number of students in the University of Arkansas Russian Language Program attend the Workshop each summer. Students interested in studying abroad can apply to the study abroad program at the University of Arizona. Both programs provide excellent opportunities for enhancing the student's knowledge of Russian.
All interested students are welcome at the Russian Club and Film Series; knowledge of Russian is not a requirement.
The Russian Coffee Hour is held on alternate Friday afternoons at Bejams in the Arkansas Student Union. Students are encouraged to attend and practice their Russian.
