(Graduate Record Exam)

GENERAL EXAM

ELIGIBILITY: The General Test measures analytical writing, verbal, and quantitative skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study.

TEST DESCRIPTION: This test measures examinees’ verbal, quantitative and analytical skills that you have developed over a long period of time in your education and work. It is given in a computer-based format only. The verbal and quantitative sections are multiple-choice. The format of the analytical section is essay.

TEST DATES: This exam is given several times per month. These dates are scheduled at various times to accommodate examinee class and work schedules. You can obtain a list of test dates by calling Testing Services at (479) 575-2743.

FEES: The cost of the GRE is $140. You may pay the fee with a major credit card or with a check payable to ETS-GRE.

REGISTRATION: Registration is limited to 15 students per test date. Call early to maximize chances of scheduling your preferred test date. If you are registering with a credit card, you may register by phone at (479) 575-2743. If registering by check, come by 714 Hotz Hall.

TEST PREPARATION: Upon registering, the Educational Testing Services will mail a CD rom containing a tutorial to the examinee. You may view this material now by visiting the ETS’ website at the link below.

ID REQUIREMENT: For examinees testing within their country of citizenship (American students) any government-issued identification such as passport, drivers license, state ID, and military ID are all acceptable. If you are not testing in your own country of citizenship, you MUST bring your passport in order to be tested.

CANCELLATION AND RESCHEDULING POLICY: 

Educational Testing Service receives all test fees whether by check or credit card.  The University does not retain any of your fees. 

Once your appointment is made, you must reschedule or cancel no later than 10 full days before the appointment (not including the day of the test or the day of the appointment).

Rescheduling Fee:  $50

New Partial Refund Amount:  A GRE examinee who cancels an appointment by the deadline will receive a partial refund equivalent to half of the original test fee.

($70 refund for a $140 test)

If you call in less than 10 business days you will lose your entire fee.

Rescheduling to another date is also possible if you call at least 10 business days before your appointment.  Rescheduling will cost an additional $50.00.  It is not possible to reschedule if you do not call at least 10 business days before your appointment.

PARKING INFORMATION:  Saturday parking is free.

Parking for all other testing days is as follows:

Metered Parking is available in front of Hotz Hall for $1.25 per hour. Please bring change (no one in the building will be able to make change for you).

We do have parking permits available for purchase in our office, ($4.25) but we cannot sell them to University of Arkansas students, Faculty, Staff, or University Affiliate. If you are a University of Arkansas student, Faculty, of Staff member, you will be ticketed using these one-day permits. You will need to make other parking arrangements, feed the parking meters in front of Hotz Hall, or have someone drop you off for your test. These parking permits are only for non-University of Arkansas test-takers.

SUBJECT EXAMS

ELEGIBILITY: The GRE Subject Tests are designed to help graduate school admission committees and fellowship sponsors assess the qualifications of applicants in specific fields of study. The tests also provide students with an assessment of their own qualifications.

TEST DESCRIPTION: The test is in a paper-based multiple-choice format and is 2 hours and 50 min. in length. Subject Tests are currently available in 8 areas.

REGISTRATION: To register, come by the offices of Testing Services in Hotz Hall to pickup a registration bulletin. Mail the form and the fee to Educational Testing Service in Princeton, NJ (must be received BY the deadline). You may also register on ETS’ GRE website at the link below.
