And Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a riddle unto you. - Judges 14:12

Answers to riddles in January 2005 issue

  1. Can you name it? What is greater than God; more evil than the devil; the poor have it; the rich need it; and if you eat it, you’ll die? Nothing
  2. A young man entered a bar and asked for a glass of water. The person behind the counter produced a gun and pointed it at the man. Why did the man reply, “Thank you” and walk away? He had hiccups.
  3. Imagine you are driving a Mercedes at 100 mph. The steering locks. The doors lock. The brakes fail. You can’t get out! You are heading for a 1,000 foot cliff! What do you do? Stop imagining.
  4. Add one small line to this equation (2+2+5= 247) to make the sum correct. Connect the top of the second plus sign with the end the left side to make a 4. 2+245 = 247
  5. Luke had it before. Paul had it behind. Ladies have it at the beginning, but only once. Abraham Lincoln had it twice. Boys cannot have it at all. Doctor Lowell had it before and behind. He actually had it twice as bad behind as he had it in front. What is it? the letter "L"
  6. Who was the greatest female financier in the Bible? Pharaoh's daughter - she went down to the bank of the Nile and drew out a little prophet.
  7. A man once broke all Ten Commandments. He lied, stole, coveted the good things others had, lusted after women, disobeyed his parents, murdered a baby, denied existence of God, and ridiculed those who kept the Sabbath. What will he have to do to escape the fires of hell? There is nothing he can do. Likewise, though you may not think you are as bad as this man, there is nothing you can do either. In God’s eyes, no one is good enough to go to heaven. Fortunately, Jesus said that he came to save sinners (that’s you and me). Because of what He did, it is possible for this man and for you to be saved. The penalty for sin is eternal death, so Jesus died for you. He is God, so He experienced eternal death. He is merciful, so He offers to pay for your sins. But, you must admit that you are a sinner, that you need Him, and that you believe Him. Write to us for a free booklet on how to be saved.
  8. A man on horseback went on a two day trip. He left on Tuesday and arrived home on Tuesday. How could this be? The name of his horse was Tuesday.
