CONFERENCES AND PUBLICATIONS

Each year the Fulbright Institute holds conference focusing on some aspect of international relations.

The 2001 Conference focused on A Decade of Post-Communism: The Fate of Democracy in Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union, April 5 & 6, 2001. Participants included Richard Rose, University of Strathclyde and Director of the New Russia Barometer; Thomas Remington, Emory University; Michael Urban, University of California, Santa Cruz; Robert Sharlet, Union College; Valerie Bunce, Cornell University; Gregory Gleason, University of New Mexico; Jack Bielasiak, Indiana University; and Ray Taras, Tulane University. Published as After Communism: Perspectives on Democracy, Fayetteville: University of Arkansas Press, 2003.

The 2002 Conference, jointly sponsored with the Blair Center of Southern Politics and Society and held on June 13 & 14, 2002, was entitled Vantage Points: Perspectives on the Clinton Presidency. Participants included Ken Bode, Northwestern University; David Brady, Stanford University; Dan Carter, University of South Carolina; June Teufel Dreyer, University of Miami; Sunshine Hillygus, Harvard University; Betty Glad, University of Chicago; Barry Hannah, University of Mississippi; Darline Clark Hine, Michigan State University; Randall Kenan, University of Memphis; Robert Legvold, Columbia University; Randy Roberts, Purdue University; Dorothy McBride Stetson, Florida Atlantic University, and Randall Woods, University of Arkansas. To be published under the same title by the University of Arkansas Press in 2004.

The 2003 Conference, to be held on May 2, deals with Divided Power: The Presidency, Congress and the Formation of American Foreign Policy. Participants include Terry Deibel, National War College; Marie Henehan, Vanderbilt University; Gary Hess, Bowling Green State University; Randall Woods, University of Arkansas; Bert Rockman, Ohio State Univeresity; Ralph Carter, Texas Christian University; and Bryan Marshall, University of Missouri, St. Louis. To be published under the same title by the University of Arkansas Press.

The 2005 Conference on Central Asia in a Post-Communist World will be co-sponsored with the King Fahd Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies of the University of Arkansas and the Institute of Oriental Studies of St. Petersburg State University in Russia.
