Program Description

Check out the presentation detailing the program and last year's project to find out more about this amazing opportunity to spend full-time on the analysis of excellently preserved skeletal material including paleopathology!
Since the late 1980s Dr. Jerome Rose has been excavating and conducting osteological analysis in Egypt.  While he usually takes one or two students with him to Egypt, this year he is again willing to take up to ten students during summer session I.  Students would be involved in analysis of the commoners cemetery at Tell Amarna, which has wonderful skeletal preservation. Students would enroll in six hours of ANTH credit during the first summer session, from approximately May 10th to June 10th.

For information about Amarna and the cemetery project visit: http://www.amarnaproject.com/
Application Deadline September 24th!

Summer Course Offerings/Descriptions

6 hours of undergraduate or graduate credit
ANTH 4256 Archeology Field Session
ANTH 561V Field Research in Archeology (for 6 credit hours)
At the site, the students would take turns working with two very experienced excavators at the cemetery.  Otherwise they would be working in the laboratory collecting the osteological data. In addition to learning how to do a general osteological project each student would collect some specialized data for their own research project.
