University of Arkansas School of Architecture

Founded in 1993, the interdisciplinary journal Appendx: culture, theory, praxis, was the first journal of its kind. It established foundations for an ongoing project intended to define a legible, black aesthetic within the discipline of architecture. Like its predecessor, APPX seeks to establish an interdisciplinary venue for criticism, scholarship, and creative activity as they relate to the discipline of architecture. Unlike its predecessor, APPX regards the relationship between architecture and blackness as a complex matter of fact. The journal will continue to establish a sustained formal relationship with various modes of African American research methods and critique. Most important, the journal will continue to be the sole historical record of this emerging paradigm.
